The Anti-Chinese League of NSW wrote a follow up letter to the Mayor of Sydney requesting a list of names of all property holders who let their tenements to Chinese.
The reply of Mayor John Harris was a polite refusal.

Formed in 1886 the manifesto of the NSW Anti-Chinese League was:
1. To check any further increase of Chinese into the colony by all legitimate means.
2. To insist upon a rigid carrying out of sanitary inspection in reference to their dwellings.
3. To agitate for an act of Parliament compelling the Chinese to live in properly constructed houses and to prevent them overcrowding each other to the
great danger of the public health.
4. To bring before the Trades and Labor Council, and all other labor organisations, the injustice perpetrated upon the artizans engaged in the furniture
trade, and also the agriculturist in the market garden business.
5. To hold public meetings from time to time in furtherance of the above mentioned object, and to generally originate and carry such measures as will
bring about a cessation of the evils complained of.
