Anti-Chinese League medal
This medal was minted by the Clermont Anti-Chinese league for the Queen's Jubilee in 1887.
Mr. O'Shea, "proposed to distribute Jubilee medals to the children of Clermont, the medals bearing on one side a medallion portrait of Her Majesty, and on the other an inscription, " Queensland for the white man; No Chinese." "
Queensland Figaro and Punch, 7 May 1887, p.17.
The organsiation itself seems to have had mixed results.
"A petition has been signed embodying this wish [removing a prohibition of Chinese on the goldfield], greatly to the disgust of the Anti Chinese League, whose policy is to keep the goldflelds from the Asiatic miner."
The Western Champion, 16 August 1887, p.3.
"During the past week the principal topic of local interest has been the removal of the Chinese from off the Clermont Extended Gold field."
