Lai Wor School was located in Waisha village (now Zhuhai City). It was built in the 1930s with donations from Choy Hing and Choy Chong, the founders of the Sun Company. The Choy brothers made a fortune with their businesses in Australia and China and helped their ancestral villages by building infrastructure projects. Choy Hing placed great value on education and built & donated to many schools.

The school had as many as 400 children enrolled at its peak and educated thousands of students over the years.  The professional teachers were brought from Hong Kong and Canton and were highly paid by the Choy brothers. Many graduates of the school worked in the Sun Department Store in Hong Kong, Canton and Shanghai.

This funding from the Choy family continued from 1930 until 1937. Due to the Japanese invasion of Canton, the businesses of the Sun and the Choy family were badly affected. The Choys family were unable to continue to fund the school and the government took over the responsibility of schooling of the local children. The school was still in use until the 1960s. A new Lai Wor School has been built in Bei Wei (北圍) 7km away from the original site.

The building of the old school still belongs to the Choy family. The building was vacant at the moment, but it has received a heritage listing from the government.
