Ma Ying Piu Ma introduced modern Western retailing concepts to the store and achieved huge success in Hong Kong. Later, the company opened a new branch in Guangzhou in 1914 and a flagship store in Shanghai in 1917. In the years before 1949, Sincere, Wing On, Sun Sun and Da Sun were regarded as the four big Chinese department stores in Shanghai. After 1949, Sincere Department Store in Shanghai was nationalised by the PRC government. Since then, the ownership and names of the store have been changed several times.
