An archaeological survey has revealed a possible pig oven at the Mount Misery Chinese camp, if so, it is the earliest extant.
"The partially visible oven at Mount Misery, embedded in an artificial slope, is distinguished by an exposed internal lining of quartz cobbles in a clay matrix. The uniform red discoloration of these cobbles, distinct from the coloring of quartz cob- bles scattered elsewhere, suggests long-term exposure to heat. Its largely subsurface character and its topographic context are common to examples described by Vivian (1985) in Tasmania, and Johnston (2002) in central New South Wales."
