Harry Goon's Hut, Wodonga

Harry Goon's Hut or Harry Goon's Camp was a market garden on which a number of aging men lived in the 1940s.

Harry Ah Goon was a market gardener from at least 1901/1904:

"John Mills and Richard Smith were charged with stealing melons from the garden of Harry Ah Goon."

"Told him that the garden belonged to Harry Ah Goon."

In 1918 Harry Ah Goon donated 10/6 to the Albury Hospital Appeal.

Interview with tomato grower Harry Ah Goon:

"The Albury market is supplied mostly with tomatoes grown at the various suburban Chinese gardens, and Chinese have practically a monopoly of the local market. It is customary from this time on for housewives to order tomatoes for sauce; but at the present selling price Mr. Vines says no orders are being booked. The cause of the present high ruling prices was explained by Harry Goon, whose garden is at Mungabareena. He spoke in broken English, as follows: “The season very dry for tomatoes. Water them every second day now; last year a good season, and water them once a week. More rain than this year. Last year more tomatoes on a stalk; fill a case of 51 lb. off three vines; this year about 12 vines to fill a case.”"
