"In the throng of improvements, the Chinese, who are not over prosperous, have erected a new joss house in place of the old tumble down affair that has done duty for the past twenty-five years, and notwithstanding the dull times Joss has been duly presented with roast pig in his new quarters, and has his cup of tea handy to partake of when ever he chooses. "

The Bacchus Marsh Express, 4 September 1886, p.3.

“The Chinese joss house at Blackwood, which consisted of two buildings, was burnt to the ground on Saturday. Fireworks, &c., were being let off in honor of their New Year, and a spark from them set fire to the buildings. The Chinese are in a great state over the burning of their josses, as two of them were destroyed. "

 Leader, 15 Febuary 1902, p.43.
