Scattered Legacy

The NSW Chinese Merchants Society (鳥修威華商會社) was founded in 1903. Its registered office was at 166 George Street, Sydney. The association was initially named '自由社' (Freedom Society) and structured in Western ways. The association's objectives were to protect the interests of Chinese merchants and engage in charities and it did not have a strong political affiliation. The NSW Chinese Merchants' Society was one of the earliest business associations formed overseas.
