Chinese Australian Ma Ying Piu, Ma Wing Chan, Gock Chuen and Hing Choy were members of the Presbyterian Church of Australia. After they returned to Hong Kong, they became members of the Church of Christ in China (中华基督教会), which was formed in 1918 by the London Missionary Society, the Congregational Church and Presbyterian Church of China.

In 1921, Ma Ying Piu, Ma Wing Chan, Gock Chuen, Choy Hing and other Chinese Australians raised money to construct a new church on 2 Bonham Road in Hong Kong.
