Moorina was a tin mining village with many Chinese miners and hence burials and an associated burning tower.

Burning Tower, Moorina
This is one of numerous burning towers in Australia that are to be found in the Chinese sections of cemeteries. It is only one of two remaining in Tasmania and is unique in its conical shaped top. Though the other Tasmanian burning tower at Weldborough may have also had such a top as it currently has a rough brick top that appears to have been added at a later date.
Both the burning towers in Tasmanian are located near memorials erected by the Chinese community in the 1930s. Though it is unknown if this is when they were built or if the memorials were erected next to the already existing burning towers.
